On 4 July 2024, another event in the "Forum Bundesbank" series will take place. This time, Dr Jürgen Hamker, Central Economics Division of the German Central Bank, will speak on the topic: "Debt brake: current challenges and reform discussion".
With its judgement, the Federal Constitutional Court has once again strengthened the debt brake for the federal and state governments and made it more binding. Does this mean that the state is being forced to pursue an overly restrictive budgetary policy? What is the German Central Bank's position on the debt brake reform debate? Dr Jürgen Hamker looks at the federal finances in the current and coming year as well as the medium-term challenges. He also takes a look at the budget plans of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
In the subsequent discussion round, visitors are invited to discuss with the expert.
The event will take place at the German Central Bank at Berliner Allee 14. It starts at 6 pm and participation is free of charge.
